Pain Management
How do I know if my pet is in pain?
Pain is a very important consideration in the wellness of your pet. Animals do not always readily show signs of pain.
Subtle signs of pain include:
Panting
Squinting
Increase in tearing
Decreased eating or loss of appetite
Weight Loss
Changes in gait (limping, shortened step)
Heat or swelling
Gastrointestinal issues - diarrhea
Weakness or inability to rise
Vocalization
Pain Treatment Options
Proper diagnosis is very important. What is really causing the pain? Is the pain caused from an injury? Is it inflammation? Deep Pain? Chronic pain? Cancer Pain?
The best practice to managing pain is to consider a multi-modal pain management approach. A multi-modal pain management plan can include medications, supplements, weight loss, diet, nutrition and exercise & rehabilitative therapies.
