Why Vaccinate?
Vaccinations are very important to protecting your pet from some very common diseases. Puppies and kittens build their immune systems from drinking their mother’s milk and colostrum (first milk) which is filled with high levels of antibodies and nutrients to protect the puppy/kitten in the first few weeks of life. After weaning, this natural immunity subsides quickly and puppies/kittens then fall risk to picking up pathogens from their environment or other animals to which they are exposed.
In adulthood, pets need to maintain adequate antibodies or they can fall risk to the pathogens as well. We will help educate you regarding those diseases against which we can vaccinate and therefore, protect your pet. Your pet should receive a full complete physical examination at the time of annual vaccination.

Best Quality Vaccines
At Cape Horn Veterinary Associates, we strive to give you and your pet the best care, and that is why we only use the highest-quality vaccines on the market. We utilize Merial vaccines because they are of excellent quality and are proven clinically to have the lowest risk of adverse reactions.
Specifically for cats, Merial has designed a product line to be adjuvant-free. Adjuvants are substances that enhance the body's immune respons. However, adjuvants have been implicated in the development of injection-site sarcomas (cancer) in cats. The adjuvant-free vaccines significantly reduce the risk of vaccine-site soft tissue sarcomas, thereby improving the overall health of your cats.

We will always accommodate the pet owner who wishes to limit the number of vaccinations given at one visit, especially for our smaller patients. Spreading multiple vaccinations apart by a few weeks can help to offset any systemic reaction that may occur when giving multiple vaccinations at one time. This can help us learn your pet’s individual immune response to each vaccination should a problem with one of them arise.
